Symphonic Band, University Band and Wind Symphony Wrap Up School Year with Performances in New Music Building
Come and enjoy three wonderful concerts in the BYU Music Building. The BYU Symphonic Band will debut “Genesis” at the newly constructed concert hall in the BYU Music Building on Apr 12. University Band will be performing April 18 and Wind Symphony will be performing April 19.
BYU’s Symphonic Band 85-piece ensemble will be performing David Gillingham’s iconic “Symphony Number Two, Genesis.” Music from composers and artists such as Rosanno Galante, John Philip Sousa and Tommy Yu will also be featured.
“This large-scale composition tells the musical story of the first nine chapters of the book of Genesis,” said Nate Seamons, the band’s director. “It is a wonderful composition that is very enjoyable to hear and see.”
Quinton Porter, a music composition student at BYU, will premier his original composition titled “Caravan Jig,” played by the Symphonic Band at the concert. “I’m deeply grateful for the work that the ensemble and our director, Dr. Seamons, have put into making the piece sound the way it does in my head,” said Porter.
University Band and Wind Symphony will also have upcoming performances in the Music Building. The University Band will be performing April 18th. BYU Wind Symphony and Skyridge High School will perform “An Evening With Friends” on April 19th. More information can be found at BYU Arts for upcoming events.
No paid tickets will be required. Seating will be general admission and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
