BYU’s Group for New Music presents four premieres that respond to the suffering associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in light of the 200th anniversary of the First Vision. Includes works written for this concert by alumni Charis Bean Duke, Dylan Findley, and James Worlton as well as the premiere of a new cycle of songs for voice and piano by BYU faculty member Christian Asplund, with soprano Melissa Heath, Assistant Professor of Voice at UVU.

BYU’s Group for New Music is pleased to present new works by some of today’s most distinctive contemporary composers, including Jessie Montgomery, Carolina Heredia, Raven Chacon, Fred Onovwerosuoke, and Bajinder Singh Sekhon. Guest performers include the BYU Percussion Ensemble and faculty cellist Michelle Kesler.

Join us for an enjoyable evening as BYU Faculty Composers Kevin Anthony, Christian Asplund, Steven Ricks, and Neil Thornock present new works for various instruments and media. The works explore innovative and traditional tuning systems, multimedia performance including live electronics and video, and other interesting techniques. Due to the recent university requirement, all patrons and employees are required to wear a mask while indoors at campus performance venues, regardless of vaccination status.

Join the Group for New Music in this concert of works by BYU faculty, alumni, and nationally and internationally known contemporary composers.

For almost 20 years, Utah Crosstalk has presented cutting-edge electronic and multimedia works from the studios of BYU and the University of Utah, and other distinguished artists. This ongoing concert series brings the students and faculty of both institutions together to promote interchanges on the latest technologies being used in music performance. This BYU installment marks the first time new faculty member Dr. Kevin Anthony takes over the co-curation of the series from its former co-founder, Dr. Steven Ricks.

Masks worn over the mouth and nose are required for the duration of the performance. For more information about the new public event requirements, click here.
