Before leaving on their tour to Australia, the BYU Wind Symphony will present “Bon Voyage” on April 13 in the de Jong Concert Hall.
The repertoire for the concert will be diverse, with selections ranging from the “Silverado” film score by Bruce Broughton to “Folk Dances” by Dimitri Shostakovich.
A highlight of the performance will be Quirino Gasparini’s “Adoramus te Christe,” conducted by guest faculty conductor, Andrew Crane.
“‘Adoramus te Christe’ is a Renaissance choral work with a band accompaniment written by Timothy Mahr,” BYU Wind Symphony conductor Donald Peterson said. “What makes the work unique is that the Wind Symphonic performs the singing as well as the accompaniment. We solicited Andrew Crane’s help early on and it fit in his schedule to conduct us on this piece.
“He has attended a few rehearsals and helped us better understand vocal tone production and diction. The immediate goal has been to prepare two musical numbers, although the attention to listening and to ensemble work has tremendously aided us in our overall musicianship on our primary instruments. We have been blessed to work with such a renowned conductor and we are grateful to him for spending the time to create this moving musical experience for all of us. We’re sure the audience will also feel the benefit of his work.”
