Once a year concert to feature five groups presenting dance styles from Ballroom to World Dance to CDT.
The BYU Department of Dance will take the stage this September opening their season with four BYU DANCE in Concert performances. This is a once a year opportunity where all five performing groups join together to produce one full-length concert.
BYU’s Ballroom Dance Company, Contemporary Dance Theatre, International Folk Dance Ensemble, Living Legends and Theatre Ballet will present some of their most exciting choreographic works in this engaging performance. The diverse offering of dance from several different genres makes the concert unique.
“We are hoping that patrons will plan now for this incredible dance experience at BYU,” said Dance Professor Edwin Austin, the artistic director of the performance. “Nowhere else in the country can you experience such movement and diversity on one stage. Our students display a level of performance that is both remarkable and inspiring.”
Austin notes additional elements of staging, lighting and live music throughout the program will have the audience dancing in their seats.
Professor Curt Holman, chair of the Department of Dance said, “It is quite a feat to produce a full-length concert in the first two weeks of school. However, this tight schedule also propels the students to push themselves to reach a very high level of excellence which also prepares them for a busy year of performance opportunities.”
Austin said, “I look forward to this dance performance each year more than any other. This community of dancers is an artistic director’s dream. They are fantastic to work with.”
There will be a reduced fare of $6 at the Saturday 11 a.m. performance. This is suitable for families.
