Broadway Star Patti LuPone Kicks Off 2019-2020 BRAVO! Season

Patti LuPone, known for her successful Broadway career and two Grammys, will show her incredible talent at BYU on September 7 in “Don’t Monkey with Broadway”

In “Don’t Monkey with Broadway,” Patti LuPone will take the de Jong Concert Hall stage at BYU as she shares her love of Broadway music through unique renditions of beloved show tunes.

Additionally, LuPone will discuss her concern for the state of the Great White Way — a name given to Broadway in the early 1900s for the stunning lights that lined the street in New York.

During the night’s performance, she will be joined on stage by BYU’s very own music/dance/theatre students in an unforgettable night with a Broadway veteran.

“Patti LuPone is a Broadway legend,” said BRAVO! series director Bridget Benton. “This two hour concert will demonstrate why she has had such tremendous longevity in her career as a Broadway performer. Audience members will be guided on a nostalgic and exciting trip through her dynamic repertoire.”

LuPone is fresh off a successful production of “Company” in London. She debuted on Broadway in 1973 and has starred in numerous musicals and operas since, including “Les Misérables,” “Anything Goes” and “Evita.”

In 2006, LuPone was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. She also won two Tony Awards for “Best Lead Actress in a Musical” in 1980 and 2008. Notably, LuPone won two Grammy Awards for “Best Opera Recording” and “Best Classical Album” in 2009.

In addition to her remarkable career in theatre, LuPone has appeared in various films and television shows, including, “Oz,” “30 Rock,” “American Horror Story,” “Pose” and “Penny Dreadful.”
