Synthesis to Perform Concerts with Special Guest Ed Calle
Synthesis will be joined by special guest Ed Calle on saxophone. Calle is a Grammy Award winner and five time Grammy Award nominee. One of the most recorded saxophonists ever, he has been recorded on over 1,200 albums in addition to film and television soundtracks. He has recorded and performed with stars such as Frank Sinatra, Gloria Estefan and Andy Garcia.
“Ed Calle is probably the most amazing saxophonist on the planet,” said Ray Smith, director of Synthesis.
The BYU Regional Jazz Festival is produced annually as part of Jazz at the Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program. Participating high school bands are given the opportunity to perform and receive feedback from professional clinicians. This year, Calle will be providing a clinic along with Justin DiCiocco and Greg Bunge.
Synthesis is known for their fusion of swing, blue, jazz and Latin styles. The group will perform standards by Duke Ellington as well as newer selections.
