16th Annual BFA New York Senior Showcase

All proceeds from the performances help the graduating students with New York expenses Each spring, graduating seniors from the interdisciplinary Music Dance Theatre (MDT) program and Theatre and Media Arts (TMA) BFA Acting program travel to New York City to present a showcase for industry professionals. Before going to New York, the seniors will have the opportunity to present their audition pieces at the “BFA New York Senior Showcase.”   BFA Senior Showcase program director Tim Threlfall said, “The showcase is something of a group audition where each student presents one of three options — two songs, or a song and a monologue, or two monologues. Their audience is made up of talent agents, producers and casting directors in the New York area. The goal is to help students moving to the city sign with an agent and be seen by casting directors and producers.” The graduating seniors share some of the costs of going to New York but all proceeds from the performances go towards helping them rent a theater in New York and pay for lodging and transportation. The showcase lasts about 45 minutes, intentionally kept short to fit the industry standard in New York for student showcases. Threlfall began the BFA Senior Showcase in New York City for graduating BFA actors and MDT students 15 years ago and continues to direct the program with Rachel Hoffman of Telsey and Company Casting as the New York consultant. Hoffman has been the main casting director for Disney’s “Frozen” which opened Feb. 2018 on Broadway with two BYU MDT alum in the cast.
