For over a century the Cougar Marching Band, an essential part of the tradition and atmosphere of BYU athletics, has captivated audiences with the excitement and pageantry of spectacular pre-game and halftime performances they bring to LaVell Edwards Stadium and through national TV performances. Consisting of 225 dedicated musicians from all over the United States and the world, the Cougar Band takes its nickname from the Wasatch mountain range, a stretch of the Rocky Mountains passing through Provo and providing the beautiful backdrop for BYU’s campus.
This annual performance allows you to experience the loudest concert on campus in relative intimacy of the de Jong Concert Hall.
From classical to jazz to world beats, the BYU School of Music sponsors a variety of ensembles representing numerous styles and genres on the musical spectrum. Orchestras such as the BYU Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestra impress with their richly coordinated sounds. BYU Singers, Concert Choir, Men's Chorus, and Women's Chorus showcase the best of choral music at the university. Synthesis takes big-band jazz to a new level with every performance. And those with an ear for popular music won't want to miss the 9-man a capella group, Vocal Point.
