BYU DEPT. OF THEATRE AND MEDIA ARTS PRESENTS
Westminster College Classical Greek Theatre Festival
Translated by Marianne McDonald
Directed by Sandra Shotwell
This classic Greek tragedy follows Oedipus' journey to discover the source of the plague affecting Thebes, the killer of the old king Laius, and the reality of his own identity. As he moves closer to the truth, we see and hear Oedipus in action, his virtues and vices on display, and through this man, hero, savior, master, and tyrant, we see how we, too, relate to others and to the divine.
Running time: 90 minutes with no intermission.
$11 ($4 off with BYU or student ID, $1 off for senior citizens or BYU alumni)
Free pre-performance lecture, 4:00 pm
The Department of Theatre and Media Arts is responsible for both film and drama at BYU. In recent years, students in the Theatre Arts program have performed Shakespeare classics such as The Taming of the Shrew and musicals like The Phantom of the Opera. The Media Arts program sponsors the annual Final Cut Film Festival which showcases an array of student-produced films in many different genres.
