All-Female A Capella Group Noteworthy Takes the Stage on Nov. 27

The group has continued to gain traction and attention in the music world since its formation in 2004 BYU’s all-female a capella group, Noteworthy, will perform in the de Jong Concert Hall on Nov. 27. The concert is the culmination of a busy semester for the group, including recording sessions, a music video and a Texas tour. Though Noteworthy has had performances in the de Jong for several years now, their campus concerts continue to be a highlight for the group. “It’s been so satisfying, and it’s made me so proud to see,” said Amy Whitcomb, the director of the group as well as a former member. “They fill the room with such energy—they are so capable of these big venues. They belong on this stage. It’s a dream come true from the very beginning of the group, and we don’t take it lightly.” “We just had an alumni event with Noteworthy, and we went through every year that the group has existed and the accomplishments of each year,” Whitcomb continued. “One of the girls stood up and read our list of goals that was started from the beginning, back in 2004, and we have achieved every single one of them over the last 15 years. We can only go up from here!” With Whitcomb coming onboard as the director of the group just this year, Noteworthy is in the process of refreshing their image and finding new goals and directions to ensure that they continue to move forward and grow. “This concert is particularly exciting because we’re rolling out our rebranding,” said Allie Gardner, an ancient Near Eastern studies major and soprano in the group. “We have always been Noteworthy, but this concert has really helped us define who Noteworthy is—a group of powerful women who know who they are, where they stand and what they stand for.” “We’re trying to make sure we’re owning our identity as a unique all-female group, and we’re hoping to empower others to own their identity as well,” added Whitcomb. “In the show, you’ll see that Noteworthy is entertaining and high-energy, but we also have a lot of important, inspiring messages that we strive to share through music. I want to share the gifts that these girls have been given.” “Every song this year was specifically chosen for the special message that it has,” said Gardner. “We hope that audiences will be able to pick up themes of love, friendship, peace, empowerment, self-worth and gratitude. Expect to leave uplifted—it’s a very exciting selection of songs.” For the students in Noteworthy, the time spent in the group is much more than a chance to perform. “Every voice and every part is needed,” said Gardner. “I have learned to celebrate who I am as a whole, both my strengths and my weaknesses alike. They make me who I am, and they make the other girls who they are as well. Alone, we can’t sing all nine parts, but together we can create a beautiful harmony that can empower and touch hearts.” “This is a great family show, particularly for young women, because these girls are such incredible role models in terms of how they carry themselves, how they perform and how they choose to use their talents,” said Whitcomb. “Audiences should come if they want to have a good time, but also if they want to feel something and if they want to be inspired and motivated. I think that’s the power of music, and that’s definitely the heart of Noteworthy.”   Tickets and Show Details Performance Dates and Times: Nov. 27 | 7:30 p.m. Location: de Jong Concert Hall, Franklin S.
